Dim the screen

In general, hold down the ‘Fn’ key and then look for the key with the symbol of either a half moon or the sun. Press this key while you still hold the ‘Fn’ key. Turning the screen off
During those times when you are not actively using your laptop, it is even better to turn off the screen completely. Go to the Control Panel and click on ‘Power Options’. Selecting relevant color scheme
If you are using Windows XP, you will have two power schemes for laptops – Max Battery and Portable/Laptop. If you want more flexibility on the power options, you need to choose Portable/Laptop option. each of the schemes has options that you can adjust, for example, the duration it will take before the computer either hibernates or goes on standby. You may also choose to put the laptop on standby or hibernation manually from the ‘Start’ button.
Create custom profiles
