Save Power on Your Laptop Battery

There are times when it may be absolutely necessary to use your laptop a lot yet its battery threatens to run out. What should you do? There are a number of things that will help you to save the power of your laptop battery, and it is a good idea to make them a habit.

Dim the screen

Although many parts of your laptop consume power, it is the hard disc and screen that take the greatest percentage. Hence you will save significant power if you dim your computer. Just ensure that you do not go to the extent that you start straining. NH-10 battery charger

In general, hold down the ‘Fn’ key and then look for the key with the symbol of either a half moon or the sun. Press this key while you still hold the ‘Fn’ key. This will bring up a dialog box from where you can adjust the brightness. In case you do not find any button with such a symbol, hold down the ‘Fn’ key while you press the arrow keys and note what happens. NP-60 battery charger Fujifilm NP-140 battery charger

Turning the screen off

During those times when you are not actively using your laptop, it is even better to turn off the screen completely. Go to the Control Panel and click on ‘Power Options’. You may need to click on ‘Performance & Maintenance’ first of all. Then click ‘Power Schemes’. You will find an option of ‘Running on Batteries’. Beneath it, across from ‘Turn off Monitor’, select the duration you want to pass before the screen switches off when the laptop is idle. FUJIFILM NP-140 battery

There are many other options you can set here. Just take the time to look around.

Selecting relevant color scheme

If you are using Windows XP, you will have two power schemes for laptops – Max Battery and Portable/Laptop. If you want more flexibility on the power options, you need to choose Portable/Laptop option. each of the schemes has options that you can adjust, for example, the duration it will take before the computer either hibernates or goes on standby. You may also choose to put the laptop on standby or hibernation manually from the ‘Start’ button.

Create custom profiles

If you are not satisfied with the options from the two color schemes, you may make your own ones. Make appropriate choices from the Power Options Properties box and then choose ‘Save As’. Give your new profile an appropriate name. SONY NP-FH70 battery

Other methods that you can also use to save power include turning off wireless network card and CPU Throttling, whereby the CPU shifts to low gear, as it were when running on batteries. SONY NP-FP30 Battery
