Liquidware Showcases Amber Tablet, a Development Device With Strong Customization

If you’re the kind of guy who likes to take apart tablets and mod the hell out of them, then the video below is pure tech pron for you. Meet the Amber tablet, that was recently showcased by Liquidware and it goes for a pretty hefty amount, $1,674.

Amber is “80% of the way to a tablet” and it features a 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 CPU, 7 inch capacitive screen and a customized version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread. There’s no casing to speak of, so all the “guts” are in plain sight. The huge price is caused by the fact that this a development kit, so it’s NOT for end users. It’s used for prototyping by developers and it comes with 2 USB ports, 1 USB OTG and GPIO, I2C, serial and ADC hard connections. Lots of connectors mean that you can try various combos of components, creating an even stronger device.

On the DIY scene this is pure gold, but the price is pretty big. Just look at the Raspberry, it had the cheapest configuration and it supported an extra component or two, but in the range of $200 or so, not $800, the starting price of Amber. What do you say about this price?

How to buy the right laptop battery and laptop ac adapter for your laptop

Your owner’s manual should have the brand and model on the front cover. If you don’t have your owner’s manual then almost every laptop has a manufacturer’s label on the bottom of the computer. This label should have the brand and model number on it. DZ-GX3100 Charger

Once you have the Brand and model of your laptop, use the Search Wizard to select your Brand and Model. Once this is done it will display the compatible Battery and AC Adapter, Charger under the Product column.

Selecting the correct laptop ac adapter

PLEASE NOTE: If the wattage requirement for your laptop is lower than the 60W or 90W output of the adapter, it will not damage your laptop, your laptop will only take the amount of power it requires. I.E. If your laptop needs 45W, then either the 60W or 90W will work OK. If your laptop needs 80W then you will need the 90W one as the 75W one will not be powerful enough.

This Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has provided a standard for wireless mobile devices Chargers finished. ADA Technologies receives a $100K contract for battery research

ADA Technologies received a contract worth $100,000 from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) for battery research related to powering micro air vehicles (MAVs).

ADA’s advanced energy storage research program began in 2005 and, until now, has received nearly $2 million in research and early stage product development funding. This latest project is sponsored by AFRL.

Unmanned aerial vehicles, MAVs can be as small as six inches in size and allow remote observation in areas that are inaccessible to ground vehicles. ADA will conduct research to develop a hybrid-power device for MAVs capable of operating in both high-power and high-energy modes.

According to Wen Lu, Ph.D., ADA’s Energy Storage team leader, “Micro air vehicles are envisioned to play a substantial role in carrying out critical missions for the nation’s future military force. However due to their small size, deficiencies in critical technologies may limit the operational performance of future MAVs. By creating a powerful hybrid-power device, we can improve the efficiency and eliminate the need for separate devices.”

The increased energy and power density provided by the proposed technology will enable greater on-board power for MAVs, as well as allowing for more payload capacity. That will broaden the mission profile for next generation MAVs. Furthermore, the developments undertaken substantially will improve the safety and lifetimes of the energy storage devices.

7 Tricks To Increase Your Mobile Battery Life

Tip 1: Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc.

4. Set the Auto-Lock period to 1 minute – Change this under Settings > General > Auto-lock. This will prevent you from leaving your iPhone on for longer than necessary.

Sion Power’s batteries make QinetiQ Zephyr achieves longest unmanned flight

Sion Power said Thursday that its BP-E722 charger were used in the QinetiQ Zephyr, the unmanned aircraft which recently broke the world record for continuous flight. Sion Power said its batteries played a critical role in allowing the Zephyr to stay aloft for more than 336 hours, breaking the prior record of 30 hours and 24 minutes. Sion said it developed the BP-E77 charger for the Zephyr as part of a joint development effort with QinetiQ.

Zephyr is an ultra-lightweight carbon fibre composite aircraft weighing around 30 kg. Launched by hand, the aircraft flies by day on solar power delivered by amorphous silicon solar arrays that cover the wings. The solar panels are also used to recharge the lithium-sulphur batteries, which are used to power the aircraft at night.

QinetiQ used MTM45-1carbon fibre epoxy resin prepregs manufactured by Advanced Composites Group (ACG) BP-E77K charger to manufacture the wing and fuselage frames of the Zephyr.

Around 50% larger than the previous Zephyr, technical changes now mean it has a 22.5 m wingspan to accommodate more batteries that are combined with a new integrated power management system. A new aerodynamic shape and high ‘T’ tail also contribute to reduce drag and improved performance. The wingBP-E818 charger is designed to take maximum advantage of thermal air currents to lift the aircraft to high altitudes.

Potential applications for Zephyr include surveillance and communications relay for a range of military and commercial requirements.
