According to Taiwan’s “Economic Times” reports that Taiwan’s largest solar power plant Motech will start a large expansion, including two sides to expand production capacity of solar cells and other projects with an estimated investment of billions NT dollars.

Motech chairman Zuo Yuanhuai said Motech scheduled end of this year reached 10 billion watts of solar battery production capacity building, the currently process is ahead of schedule, by the end of the year actual total capacity could up to 1.15 billion watts, 15% over the target. According to Taiwan’s industry estimates, next year, Taiwan Motech solar cell production capacity, at least 17 billion watts and may even challenge 20 billion watts.

Recently, US North Carolina State University research team demonstrated a wonderful solar water gel – artificial leaves, which could produce electricity, this new solar cell more environmentally friendly than silicon cells, and cheaper. The researchers have used chlorophyll in plants as a sensitive factor, into the hydrogel made of flexible batteries, and additional materials such as carbon coated graphite or carbon electrodes, light-sensitive molecule in the sunlight to generate electricity.

One of the researchers, North Carolina State University Professor Olin said that although the synthesis of light-sensitive molecules can be used for solar cells, but researchers have been trying to find a more green way to use solar energy. As objects from nature, such as chlorophyll containing hydrogel matrix, thus can be used for new type of solar cells.

Since this concept has been validated, the researchers need to do is to make this new gel batteries more like real leaves. The next step in this research is the simulation of self-regenerating mechanism of the plant and increase the efficiency of the new battery. Olin professor said that although at this stage the efficiency of the new battery is still low, but also take a long time for used in real life, but the current concept of generated by natural objects may replace the current transistor technology in the future. Imagine a beautiful picture of artificial leaves solar cells on the roof in the future.

It is reported that the research project funded by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy jointly, while South Korea Chung-Ang University also participated in some research.

As the world’s largest and most advanced 8.5 generation thin film solar battery project, the world’s first large-scale two-junction thin film solar cell project constructed by the LDK Best Solar Co., Ltd., began to achieve mass production on September 28.

It is understood that the company produced 5.7 square meters silicon thin film solar cells, is the world’s largest single block thin film solar batteries. After mass production, the company will achieve an annual capacity of 130 MW, according to the current market price, it is expected to achieve annual sales income of 20 billion dollars.
